Summer in the City
We love being in the city of Pittsburgh for the summer. While there isn’t much activity around the college campuses, there is still a lot going on! Pittsburgh hosted the UN’s World Environment Day and has several festivals throughout the summer. It’s fun to enjoy our home, garden and neighborhood as we prepare to go to Australia in December! We booked our tickets to fly out of the States on Christmas day, because tickets are cheapest then. We’re excited for what this holiday could look like, as one friend put it: How awesome is it though, that you’ll be celebrating the birth of Christ by getting on a plane and leaving your life behind to follow Him into ministry in a far off land…
Jason has been working on the book he’s co-writing with another staff member this summer. It’s about the current generation of college students and how they’re in a great place to finish the Great Commission if they embrace the convictions and values they need to follow Jesus. It’s been a trying time for him to be able to succinctluy communicate what he wants in space and verbage that connects with a different generation, but he and Roger are confident that the Lord has called them to this task and are embracing this huge step of faith!
Hannah has been enjoying playing with her “best friends”, as she calls them, at daycare. She’s learning so much – she’s able to identify some letters of the alphabet, is drawing diamonds, rainbows and triangles, and is learning how to run fast! She keep us on our toes, and we’re trusting the Lord for wisdom in how to parent her right now, how to discipline her in a way that shows her GOd’s love and our need to obey Him. On days she’s at home, we’ve been playing outside all day (if it’s not raining), running errands, and taking adventures to new parks! We’ve also started reading her the Jesus Storybook Bible (we definitely recommend this, even for adults to read because it’s so easy to read and shows how God’s plan to rescue people started before creation) daily and are having great chats with her about how God loves her and others!
Maria has been trusting the Lord in a new way this summer by focusing on raising our support for our year in Australia as well as sharing our vision with others who have joined our team of partners. It’s a huge step of faith to do this, and to wait on the Lord for His timing and way of providing that looks different than what she’d naturally do. But it’s been great to see Him provide (we’re currently at 43% of our Australia goal and 51% of our monthly goal) and to be reminded of His faithfulness and goodness and perfect timing!
As we’re writing this, we’re getting ready to start traveling for a few weeks. In July, we’re going to Colorado for a week of training for team leaders for our STINT. In August, Jason is going to his brother’s wedding in the Dominican Republic, we have a family vacation with friends from college in Ocean City, NJ, and we have our briefing in Chicago for our whole team for STINT. It’s an exciting time!
