Greek Ministry @ Pitt
It has been a great month of life and ministry in Pittsburgh! While we are beginning to count down the days until we leave for Melbourne (only 60 days!!!), we are asking the Lord to keep our hearts and minds here in Pittsburgh.
We wanted to share about an ongoing ministry launch that has been happening for a few years in Pittsburgh among the Greek students (sororities & fraternities). Three years ago, two guys involved in Cru rushed a fraternity and began reaching out to their brothers as they were involved in Cru. They had a great ministry and were sharing the gospel and their lives with their brothers and seeing transformation!
Last year, Maria started meeting with Jill who is in the Theta Phi Alpha sorority, to challenge them to be more intentional with their sisters in sharing their faith. We really believe that Greek students have a really unique opportunity to build deep relationships and have a great influence for Christ in the Greek system. Where else do you find groups of 40-50 gals and guys always being together, developing community and sharing lives and secrets? Where else could light impact the darkness than a house? Many fraternities & sororities were founded on biblical principles, so there’s a foundation to go back to that is an easy way to get into spiritual conversation. So Jill, along with Olivia who’s in Tri Delta sorority, have a heart to reach out to the girls in their houses as they go deeper in their walks with Jesus and are involved in Cru. It’s so exciting to see these women take huge steps of faith and risks for their Lord because they see the need for them to shine their light in dark place – they are really doing the ministry we’re equipping them to do! I (Maria) get really excited to see these students come to Cru and be equipped and encouraged in their faith and then take their awesome Jesus back to their natural spheres of influence!
We are praying that these gals go and invite their sisters to Greek Conference, a gathering of Greek students from around the country in February in the Mid-West for a weekend of encouragement, training and challenge.
